3D Graphics Tutorial - 3D Spike Tutorial

Learn how to make a wavy spike, sort of like logo for the US football team, the Minnesota Vikings.

1. First click Objects - Spline Primitive - Circle. Now, resize that circle to 50 m. You can make it larger if you want a fat spike. Next, change the Z position to -200 m, like the image on the left.

Picture 1

2. After you got that done, copy the circle, then paste it, thus creating two circles. Change the size of the new circle to 40 m, and change its Z position to -100 m. It should look like the image to the left.

Picture 2

3. Now, go on doing the above steps, (Copy the new circle, Paste it, take 10 m off its radius, and add 100 m to its Z position) until you get to the last circle, with a radius of 1. (Zero wont work.) You know have splines all over the place, like the image on the left.

4. Now, click Objects - Nurbs - Loft Nurbs. Now click and drag the first circle you made into the Loft Nurbs on the objects plane. Just keep dragging and dropping until all of the circles are in the nurb. You should now have something like the image on the left.

Picture 4

5. Now, to give it the wavy look, select one of the middle circles, and move it to the side a bit.

6. Move around one or two of the other circles, and you'll have a wavy spike. Now, rotate until you get the look you like. Check out the wicked one I have to the left.

7. Now, apply some material and render it, and you could have something like the image on the left.
